Like many of his teammates, it’s been a tale of two seasons for Garnett. The first featured an uncomfortable, aging big man, frustrated with his own inability to score and a sinking defense he couldn’t save. The second? A resurgent, spry veteran, hitting jumpers all over the floor, making key defensive stops inside the lane and out, and motivating teammates with his trademark intensity.
Garnett’s move to center has helped key Brooklyn’s resurgence in 2014. The offense now largely functions through his passing in the high post (he’s third on the team in passes despite playing as a center and fewer than 22 minutes per game!), and at center, he’s allowing fewer points in the paint than even the stingiest defenses.
It’s hard to forget just how bad Garnett looked in 2013. But he’s been a new player in the new year. His grade splits the difference.
