Keep it open
Why rush into a 15th man at all? Keep it open for flexibility. General Manager Billy King must ponder whether signing a middling talent like Jarvis Varnado or Sam Young is more worth the roster space than leaving the spot open for a future deal. With an open spot, the Nets would be able to take back an additional player in any trade. With January 15th approaching rapidly (the date in which many players signed in the offseason can be traded), and the Nets poised to make a move, roster flexibility could always help to get these potential deals to come together.
