Give Marquis Teague this: he’s fast.
Objectively, you could say his career player efficiency rating of 4.8 is the worst of any player in NBA history with at least 85 games played. Subjectively, you could say he’s six feet on a stepstool. Sure, he may not have a discernible NBA skill yet. But he’s definitely fast!
The good news for Teague: he’s only barely old enough to drink, having turned 21 near the end of last season, and there’s still time to develop a feel for the game. He’s got the athletic traits and genetics of a successful NBA player, even if his NBA highlight to this point is getting embarrassed by those genetics.

Sorry, Marquis.
The Nets acquired Teague as emergency insurance after trading away Tyshawn Taylor, sending Tornike Shengelia to Chicago for his rights. He played almost exclusively in garbage time, logging only 201 minutes despite being one of just two point guards to come off the bench, and lost his role as the team’s third point guard to Jorge Gutierrez, who has a non-guaranteed contract.
At this point, Teague is what he is: an end-of-bench guard reliant on his upside and quickness, who can’t shoot or make decisions in NBA speed. That’s the reason the Nets picked up Jarrett Jack, and it’s the reason Teague won’t see much playing time this year.
