Well boy, if that doesn’t excite you, what will?
One team just re-assigned its top assistant sans clarity, hasn’t had its star point guard healthy all season, and has the worst defense in the league. The other team has lost nine straight, starts Andrea Bargnani at center, and has a coach that the front office is reportedly bashing to other teams to up the trade value of their players.
Yup, welcome to The Toilet Bowl, The Rotten Apple Bowl, The Sewage Drain, The New Yuck Bowl, or my new favorite thanks to Jason Kidd, The Both Teams Stink Battle. The 5-13 Brooklyn Nets host the 3-13 New York Knicks, their cross-bridge rival, in a game that’s less about which team runs New York than which team won’t get run out of town.
But seriously, this game still has some cultural clout. With both teams out of things to feel hopeful about, a win over their crosstown rival could start the spark needed to catapult a dismal season out of its funk. At the very least, it’ll mean bragging rights until the teams meet again. It’s also a chance to show on national television that one of these teams can beat… well, somebody, anybody.

Enjoy. And win or lose, hope tonight’s enjoyable.
