Trade Deadline Roundup

The NBA trade deadline has come and gone. Here is a list of the deals that went down (to be updated as more news trickles out):

  • Dwight Howard has signed his ETO, making him a member of the Orlando Magic for one more season.
  • The New Jersey Nets have acquired Gerald Wallace from Portland for Shawne Williams, Mehmet Okur and a top-three protected first round pick.
  • The Indiana Pacers have acquired Leandro Barbosa from Toronto for a second round pick.
  • The Los Angeles Lakers have acquired Ramon Sessions from Cleveland for Jason Kapono and a 2012 first rounder.  The Lakers also traded Derek Fisher and Dallas’ first round pick to Houston for Jordan Hill and a first rounder.
  • The Houston Rockets sent Johnny Flynn and Hasheem Thabeet and a second rounder (via Minnesota) to Portland for Marcus Camby.
  • As a part of a three team trade, Nene, Brian Cook and a pick goes to the Wizards, JaVale McGee to Denver and Nick Young to Clippers.
  • Stephen Jackson is going to San Antonio in exchange for Richard Jefferson.
  • The 76ers have acquired Sam Young for the rights to Ricky Sanchez.
  • Not trade-related, but the Portland Trailblazers have fired head coach Nate McMillan.  Blazer assistant coach Kaleb Canales will take over as interim.

I think that is it.  I will update more with more trades.

I’ll have a column coming up regarding the loss of Dwight and the gain of Gerald Wallace later on (as will many of the NAS writing team).  For now, however, we had a pretty active deadline — the shockers being Fisher out of LA and Nene out of Denver.  Derek Fisher particularly really surprised me, as he has been a loyal (cue new Nets buzz word) member of the Lakers for as long as I have been a basketball fan.  The Nene deal was also surprising, given that the team just signed him to a massive deal.  John Wall finally gets his legit big man and not the Not Top Ten play of JaVale McGee.

More to come from all Nets Are Scorching writers on the Nets deals later.  But for now, despite the disappointment, lets all accept the fact that the Dwightmare is behind us and it’s time to look ahead to the future of our team.
