You know, I have only three years left. Because I said if not, I would get married. So maybe I am the most devoted guy for the championship now.

-Mikhail Prokhorov in yesterday’s press conference

For most, getting married is a joyous day that ranks among the best of their lives. For Mikhail Prokhorov, it’s the cost of doing business.

I’m sure that should the Nets fail in their quest to win a championship, there’s one woman out there will fall “in love” with Prokhorov‘s billions. Though I’m not sure you’d really want to marry the woman who knows you’re marrying her because you lost a bet with yourself about your sports team.

My only request: please play the wedding live on (inter)national television.

More quotes from Prokhorov’s presser:

When asked about conversations with LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony: “Let’s have a bet. If I give you an answer, you will pay the penalty. OK?”

When asked if he saw the Knicks-Heat game: “I went to bed 8 o’clock, in order to be up 4 in the morning for the great workout.”

On building a team: “What is important is of course defense. We trust in the Avery defense system. We need to have good rebound and defense.”

When asked about a successful season this year: “Conference Finals.”
