Per Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, and soon The Vertical:
After his dismissal as Brooklyn Nets general manager, Billy King’s reassignment is expected to include advising ownership on its search for King’s successor, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
For the record, King is no longer listed on the team’s front office directory, and his official capacity is yet to be determined. But helping find your replacement for a job that you were forced out of is… well, it’s something else.
Buried in the report is another interesting tidbit: that Nets CEO Brett Yormark, who has remained close friends with former Nets coach and current Kentucky coach John Calipari, is pushing hard for the team to make a major offer to Coach Cal:
One of the major influences in the search process promises to be Nets CEO Brett Yormark, who has remained an immense ally of Kentucky coach John Calipari since Calipari’s late 1990s tenure as Nets president and coach. Yormark has remained a proponent of making a lucrative offer to bring Calipari back to the Nets in a dual president and coaching role, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
What a time to be in Brooklyn.
