Pregame Open Thread: Nets vs. Magic, 7:00 P.M.

Finally! The Nets-Magic game we’ve been waiting for after that major Dwight trade at the dead- wait, what was that?  Dwight’s still in Orlando?  Bummer man.

Here are some things to look out for in tonight’s contest.

  • There is some good news! The Nets are now approaching the last lap for Dwight Howard jokes.  After tonight, the Magic beat writers and TV broadcasters will leave us alone and let us finish our season.  Tonight should be the last round of Nets ridicule, and I for one, can’t wait.
  • It’s essentially going to be a Dwight Howard homecoming for Orlando, it’s the first game after he’s agreed to stay with the team another season.  It’ll be interesting to see how the crowd will respond (prediction: insanity) and how Dwight will react.  The crowd will really be the big story, how they respond to both the Magic and the Nets and I anticipate a hostile environment for our boys.
  • The Nets are starting Sudianta Gaines, MarShon Brooks, Shelden Williams, Kris Humphries and DeShawn Stevenson.  Farmar and D-Will are both out. D-League call up Jerry Smith will also receive significant minutes, being the second of two healthy Nets point guards.
  • The Nets could certainly use a win here to start their run at the playoffs.  Trading away their first-round pick will only be redeemed if they either get a top-three or reach the post-season, the latter being the more likely scenario.  It’s time to really look at the roster we have and hope they are in it for the long haul.

I’ll be tweeting during the game (@chrishooker9) and writing the post-game Net Worth so stay tuned for that.  Go Nets!
