Nets waive Stephen Graham, sign DeShawn Stevenson

According to various sources, the Nets have reportedly agreed to a one-year contract with DeShawn Stevenson worth $2.5 million. Stevenson started 54 games in the regular season and 18 in the playoffs for the NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks, though the word “starter” was mostly for show — he averaged barely over 5 points and 16 minutes per game.

Nets owner Jay-Z and DeShawn Stevenson have clashed before. After some disparaging comments by Stevenson aabout LeBron James in 2008, Jay-Z wrote a dis track about DeShawn, “Blow the Whistle.”

To make room for Stevenson, the Nets officially waived Stephen Graham this morning. Graham’s $1.1 million contract would have become guaranteed had he made the opening night roster, but Graham was never going to make the opening night roster anyway.

With these moves, the Nets have slightly under $10 million remaining in cap space, with thirteen guaranteed players on their roster.
