Nets’ team effort contributes to big win vs. Hornets on end of road trip

W 125 111

Happy post-Snow Day! The Brooklyn Nets (thankfully) awarded Nets Nation with a win, finally ending their 10-game road losing streak.

Both squads came out hot, as they exchanged bucket after bucket. At one point, the Nets hit eight of their last nine shots. Yeah, Allen Crabbe was cookin’, hitting all three of his field goals, including two treys (!!). Joey Buckets also got UP:

The Nets finished the quarter shooting at 63.6 percent, while the Hornets shot 50 percent. Brooklyn also held a decent 35-29 lead. Per NetsDaily, this was the highest scoring first quarter the Nets had on the road this season.

Things started to get chippy for the Nets in the second period, particularly after a questionable foul that was called on Joe Harris. The Hornets regained the lead and extended it to as much as five points midway into the second quarter.

Then, there are only three words for what happened: ALLEN. FREAKIN’. CRABBE. Crabbe continued being red hot, knocking down four consecutive three-pointers over two and a half minutes late into the quarter. At halftime, he already had 20 points and was shooting an incredible 7-of-8 from the field (a perfect 6-of-6 from downtown!).

Crabbe’s first half contributions and the Nets’ ball movement (18 assists!) were part of the reason Brooklyn led 65-59 at halftime.

To open the second half, the Nets continued to feed off their second quarter momentum. Two quick buckets from Crabbe and DeMarre Carroll extended Brooklyn’s advantage to double digits, 69-59.

The Hornets just would not go away, however, and remained within striking distance for much of the period thanks to Kemba Walker and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Still, the quarter was marked by some ooh’s and ahh’s on Brooklyn’s end, especially on this Jarrett Allen slam:

With 2:33 remaining in the quarter, a flagrant foul was called on Cody Zeller, after his elbow caught Caris LeVert on a screen. This seemed to ignite a flame in LeVert, as he contributed six of the Nets’ next eight points, capping a 11-3 Brooklyn run.

At the end of the third, the Nets held a comfortable 96-85 lead. That’s right — they scored 96 points in the first three quarters. (And surprisingly, as Ryan Ruocco pointed out on YES Network’s broadcast, the Nets’ impressive third quarter did not include a single made three-pointer.)

It was all Brooklyn in the fourth quarter, as the Nets maintained a double digit lead for the most part. LeVert, Carroll and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson were the biggest fuels for the Nets in the final 12 minutes.

Allen Crabbe

A+

The stats: 29 PTS, 11-21 FG, 6-11 3FG, 1-1 FT, 8 REB, 1 STL, 1 BLK, 2 TOV, 33 MIN

Allen Crabbe could probably melt all the snow, slush and ice from the nor’easter that hit New York City. THAT’S how hot he was tonight. Heat. Check.

Spencer Dinwiddie

B+

The stats: 6 PTS, 3-6 FG, 0-2 3FG, 10 AST, 1 BLK, 2 TOV, 23 MIN

We might want to nickname him Spencer “Dishwiddie” because his assist totals continue to be staggering. Even after fouling out tonight, he finished with 10 dimes.

Jarrett Allen

A-

The stats: 13 PTS, 5-8 FG, 3-4 FT, 7 REB, 1 BLK, 0 TOV, 21 MIN

The rook struggled with some early foul trouble, but he still finished with quite an impressive stat line. Plus, he’s still living up to his reputation as a pretty insane dunk monster.

Caris LeVert

A+

The stats: 22 PTS, 8-15 FG, 1-4 3FG, 5-5 FT, 4 REB, 8 AST, 1 STL, 2 TOV, 30 MIN

It’s settled: we like angry Caris LeVert. He’s quite feisty and fiery.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson

A

The Nets moved east to face the Hornets in Charlotte, and so did Rondae Hollis-Jefferson’s numbers. Rondae had a rather bleak performance out west in Golden State just one game ago, but bounced back by filling up the stat sheet. Also, another double-double!
