Nets assign Shengelia, Taylor to D-League

Brooklyn Nets forward Tornike Shengelia and guard Tyshawn Taylor have been assigned to the Nets D-League affiliate Springfield Armor, the team announced today.

Shengelia and Taylor are two of the four players the Nets can assign to the NBA Development League as many times as they want without needing player permission, Mirza Teletovic and Mason Plumlee being the others. Neither has played into a major rotation spot, though Taylor saw significant playing time (including three starts) when Deron Williams sat with ankle injuries.

For those of you thinking this predicates a move to replace Brook Lopez, Taylor and Shengelia still count as part of the active Nets roster even when in the D-League. The team has 15 guaranteed contracts, and the only way to add another player would be to make a trade, waive a player, or apply for (and receive) the Disabled Player Exception.
