Boris Diaw’s expiring contract, worth roughly $9 million this season and $0 after this season, appears to be a desirable asset to the New Jersey Nets, according to this tweet by Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer:
I hear from multiple sources Nets expressed interest in Boris Diaw’s expiring contract. The hitch is what #Bobcats would have to take back.

I (and Rick) say “Boris Diaw’s expiring contract” and not “Boris Diaw” because the Nets would have less than zero interest in Boris Diaw without said expiring contract, as Boris Diaw is a 29-year-old undersized big man with declining skills and the dubious distinction of negative win shares on this season. Diaw reportedly was also told once by his double bacon cheeseburger to “slow it down a bit.”{{1}}[[1]]May not be true[[1]]
The Nets would likely want to relinquish the non-expiring contracts of players such as Johan Petro (2 years, $6.75 million) or Shawne Williams (2 years, 6.158 million), freeing up additional cap space for this upcoming free agency class. If only we knew where the Nets planned on spending that additional money.
