Jason Collins has admitted that he’s been the attention of anti-gay taunts from an opponent, reported in an interview with Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.
Since Collins became the first openly gay professional athlete, the NBA and its players have been undeniably in support of the center. However, not everybody was going to be content with the game’s recent evolution.
While Collins wouldn’t out the player, he stated: “one knucklehead from another team.”
Some believe that not revealing the name of the player may encourage more of the same behavior, but Collins isn’t worried about that. “He’s a knucklehead. So I just let it go. Again, that goes back to controlling what you can control. That’s how I conduct myself just being professional.”
