What they did: The Nets acquired Marcus Thornton from the Sacramento Kings for Jason Terry and Reggie Evans, adding a rotation guard and about $3.5 million to their luxury tax bill for two players not in their regular rotation. The deal comes after the Nets traded Tyshawn Taylor and Tornike Shengelia in separate deals, acquiring Marquis Teague and clearing cap space.
What they didn’t do: They did not absorb power forward Jordan Hill into their Disabled Player Exception, which would have cost them about $17 million in luxury tax commitments. They also did not trade for Dwight Howard.
