The Brooklyn Nets will host their third pre-draft group workout (not including their major workouts in April) on Monday, June 27 at the PNY Center in Rutherford, New Jersey.
Working out for the Nets on Monday: Mark Lyons (PG, Arizona), Nurideen Lindsay (G, Rider), Jamal Olasewere (SF, LIU), C.J. Leslie (SF, NC State), Tony Mitchell (PF, North Texas), Keith Rendleman (PF, UNC-Wilimington).
Mitchell, a 6’8″ combo forward, highlights the group. Talented but not always assiduous — he admitted to slacking at North Texas — Mitchell projects to be anywhere from a lottery pick to the end of the first round. SB Nation has him at number 10 on their current big board and project him to go to the Celtics at 16.
SLAM Magazine has Mitchell going to the Hawks at 18 and describes him as ” akin to a springbok, a South African antelope that’s nearly as quick as it is brawny.” Got it. He has lottery talent, but in addition to questionable work ethic and missing the first nine games of the season to injury, he may end up being a tweener.
Leslie would have been a first-round pick in the 2012 draft, but his further pursuit of higher learning proved to hurt his draft prospects. C’est la vie.
