Lopez left the bench for the locker room during the third quarter of the team’s 94-86 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, and the positive prognosis comes with a huge sigh of relief from anyone connected to the team. Lopez has undergone three surgeries on that foot in the past four years, including an insertion and replacement of a screw on the fifth metatarsal bone. Any pain associated with that foot comes with a heightened level of caution and fear.
Lopez has averaged a team-high 20.4 points and close to eight rebounds in 33 minutes per game thus far this season, and the team fell apart with Lopez getting checked out Saturday night against the Bucks. The Nets have yet to win a game this season, but Lopez’s ability to score inside is the biggest thing keeping them in games thus far.
The Nets don’t play again until a Wednesday night matchup on the road against the Houston Rockets, which gives Lopez an extra two days to rest.
