Armor Report: Springfield clinches spot in the playoffs for the first time

The Springfield Armor could have clinched a playoff spot last night in Portland against the Maine Red Claws. However the Armor were upended by the Red Claws in overtime 110-101. It was Springfield’s third game in four days with two of those games going to overtime.

However Springfield (27-20) was helped out by the Texas Legends who defeated the Iowa Energy 103-98 to ensure that the Armor will make the first postseason appearance in franchise history.

The Eastern Conference-leading Armor have three games left on the road to wrap up a very successful 2011-2012 campaign. If all goes Springfield’s way, the Armor will host its first playoff game as early as Apr. 11.

First-year head coach Bob MacKinnon is a proven winner in the D-League, leading the Colorado 14ers to D-League Championship in 2009.

The playoff berth is just another accomplishment in a long list of accolades for the Armor this season. Springfield has a franchise-record for wins, as well as All-Star selections (3) and Gatorade Call-Ups (3)  including the most recent call-up, Dennis Horner, who was picked up by the Nets for the second time this season last week.
