How He Got Here: The Nets signed Teletovic outright from the Euroleague club Caja Laboral Vitoria, where he had played professionally since 2006.

Contract: Teletovic earns the full mini-mid level exception, worth roughly $9.7 million over three years.

Strengths

Teletovic is a big unknown at the NBA level. Technically a 26-year-old rookie, the 6’9” power forward made his mark as the leading scorer in Euroleague in 2011-12. He can — and will — shoot the three like nobody’s business, and hit 43.1% of his three-pointers for Caja Laboral last season. He’s been compared to a poor man’s Ryan Anderson, but seems a bit more shameless with his gunning.

Weaknesses

Rather than outright weaknesses, I have a set of questions. Outside of shooting the long ball, there’s some question as to how Teletovic will translate to the NBA level. He’s a scorer, but what else? He was a decent rebounder in Euroleague, but will that translate positively? Can he defend at the NBA level? Can he set hard screens and score inside? How will he impact the game when his shot’s not falling?

From the Coach

“I just don’t like when he fakes his shot and puts the ball the floor on the times when he’s wide open. I’m just letting him know that I have a lot of confidence in him taking his shot. He’ll make it and it’s an adjustment period.”
