The Incompletes

Like Dwyane Wade would tell you, some things are just bigger than basketball. The final game of his career tonight in Brooklyn was one of those things.

The league was out in force to honor the future Hall of Famer. LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and Chris Paul were all in attendance for the last dance of Wade’s NBA career. With the Brooklyn Nets already having secured their playoff spot and the Miami Heat being mathematically eliminated, there wasn’t much to play for in this game for either team. It showed in the level of play, but who’s complaining?

Full disclosure: There isn’t much to discuss about the game. The Nets ran away with it early and it was never really close. Tonight was much less about the game than it was about the history being made. Brooklyn played well across the board and secured their first winning season in way too long. Dwyane Wade earned the fifth and final triple-double of his storied career, his first since February 2011.

It was an emotional night all around and a perfect way for the Nets to end the regular season. This game, with all of the national media attention, with all of the big stars in attendance, was one of the best practices for the intensity of the postseason.

It wasn’t a perfect game of basketball, but it was a perfect night in Barclays Center.

D'Angelo Russell

A+

The stats: 21 PTS, 7-13 FG, 7-11 3PT, 7 REB, 5 AST, 1 STL, 1 TO

While Wade was obviously the star of the show, those in attendance will remember D’Angelo Russell’s game.

Four straight threes to start the second half is insane, even for D’Lo. The fact that so many stars, like one of his best friends Devin Booker, were in attendance makes it all the sweeter.

Shabazz Napier

A-

The stats: 20 PTS, 7-17 FG, 6-13 3PT, 5 REB, 5 AST, 0 TO

Shabazz Napier has been riding the bench more often than not since the All-Star break, but he made a statement tonight.

This is even more of a testament to how deep the Brooklyn Nets are. A player who has barely seen game action for nearly a month came out and made his presence felt. This is one advantage that the Nets will be taking with them into the playoffs, if one player is having an off game, there is always a next man up to fill in the gap.

Jarrett Allen

B+

The stats: 1 PTS, 0-4 FG, 14 REB, 2 AST, 2 BLK, 1 TO

The man rebounded the ball and he did it big.

Rodions Kurucs

B

The stats: 15 PTS, 5-15 FG, 1-8 3PT, 9 REB, 1 AST, 2 STL, 0 TO

Rodions Kurucs should not be taking this many three-pointers.

That is the type of shot that Kurucs should be hunting for. Tonight was more of a showcase than a game, but the Nets can not afford to have Rodi shooting the three ball that frequently and that inefficiently against the Philadelphia 76ers.
