The Brooklyn Nets improved to 6-9 on the season with a 118-107 win over the Utah Jazz at home Friday night. That means the Nets split the season series with Utah and snap a three-game losing streak against them. 

Spencer Dinwiddie’s career-high 25 points and six three-pointers led the way. 

The first half was about as picture-perfect as Kenny Atkinson could have wanted from his team. The Nets had season-highs in scoring (65 points) and assists (18) in a half and the entire rotation got involved. 

Both teams started the game shooting over 60 percent, but the Nets first broke away from the Jazz with a 14-0 run in the middle of the first quarter. Dinwiddie, king of the highlights, set the tone off the bat dishing to his teammates and draining threes. 

Joe Harris joined in the three party by making back-to-back shots from distance after a timeout. Those buckets extended the Nets to a 20-2 run in the first quarter, where they finished with a 39-25 lead while shooting 65 percent.

As Ian Eagle said, the Nets should “take a quarter like that and bottle it.” 

Brooklyn went on another 7-0 burst in the second quarter with Trevor Booker leading the way, with the lead stretching to as high as 22 points in the third quarter. That is the highest Brooklyn lead this season. 

One of the biggest stories of the game, besides Dinwiddie, was the team’s assists. Brooklyn finished the first half with a season-high 18 assists in a half and finished the game with 27 assists on 43 field goals. As for turnovers, Brooklyn had 11 of them. The team was sloppy near the end of the game, but overall was pretty efficient.

The Mayor picked up the second half where he left off, with another three-pointer. Dinwiddie finished the game with six three-pointers, marking a career-high. He also recorded a career-high in points with 25. A career-night for The Mayor. 

The Nets drained 17 of their 37 attempted three-pointers, good for a majority of the team’s production. In the first half, the Nets dominated the paint with Rudy Gobert out, but the Jazz attacked the paint in the second half to make it even inside. 

The third quarter was where Utah started to threaten, out-scoring Brooklyn 31-24 in the quarter. Joe Ingles led the way with his perfection from three, making all five of his shots from distance. 

In the fourth quarter, the Nets were able to maintain a double-digit lead. With Isaiah Whitehead leaving the game with a shoulder injury, players like Allen Crabbe and Caris LeVert helped give the Nets some breathing room. 

Raul Neto brought the Jazz 22 points off the bench and breathed some life into Utah, but it was not enough to overcome the Nets.

Brooklyn finished the game shooting 50.6 percent from the field, bolstered by Crabbe’s hot shooting down the stretch. 

Good stats. Good minutes. Good team win. No D’Angelo Russell for a while after his arthroscopic knee surgery today, but at least he enjoyed the game from his hotel room.
