The latest: The New York Daily News reports that the Brooklyn Nets are interested in Mike Dunleavy because of his relationship with an influential golfing entourage that includes Billy King. Another insider said that the report is a complete fabrication.

The skinny: Mike Dunleavy was born in Brooklyn and said it would be a dream to coach the franchise in his home borough. In 17 years coaching, Dunleavy has a regular season record of 613-716, making the playoffs in seven years. He was most recently the coach of the Los Angeles Clippers from 2003-10, resigning in February of 2010 to focus full-time on his duties as general manager. He was fired as general manager a month later.

The verdict: No.
