On the brink of his team falling apart in yet another poor third quarter, Brooklyn Nets forward Paul Pierce committed a flagrant foul on Indiana Pacers guard George Hill. Hill was coasting to the basket on a fast break when Pierce clotheslined Hill, hitting him in the head and neck area and sending him crashing to the floor.
The flagrant foul was ruled a “flagrant-2”, which is an automatic ejection. A flagrant-2 is defined as “unnecessary and excessive contact committed by a player against an opponent.” Pierce may also get fined and possibly suspended, though a suspension is unlikely. If he is suspended, he would miss the team’s Christmas Day matchup against the Chicago Bulls.
