David Aldridge reports that Andrei Kirilenko will opt into the final year of his two year contract worth 6.5 million.
After a season full of injuries, it was unknown as to whether or not the veteran would return to the Nets. Kirilenko only played in 45 games this season, averaging 5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists over 15 minutes per game and often found himself on the outside of Kidd’s rotation.
When healthy, however, Kirilenko still can cause havoc on the basketball court for Brooklyn. At times, his reckless abandon injected life into a slow and steady Nets team.
If Paul Pierce does not return, Kirilenko could find himself in a starting role next year.
