Tonight, a new era of Brooklyn Nets basketball began. Even without Deron Williams on the floor, the Nets won 111-106 in overtime.
Most Valuable Player- Andrei Kirilenko was aggressive on both ends of the court, and racked up the steals and forced turnovers. The seasoned veteran was immediately the spark off the bench that the Nets will be looking for throughout the year. Kirilenko finished with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and block in 23 minutes. A treat to watch.
X-Factor: Kevin Garnett was classic KG tonight. He was constantly talking (surprise!) on the floor, being supportive and energetic. Garnett demanded the attention and respect of the team at all moments, it’s very clear that the culture of this team has changed already. There are plenty of things that have become “iconic” to Garnett, like jumping up and blocking shots after the whistle. For years, I hated him for it. Tonight, I smiled. It’s good to have KG on your side.
Other Notes: Mirza threw down. I love Shaun Livingston already. Reggie made his first two free throws. Brook is big.
Nets basketball is back.
