Nets waive four players, roster now stands at 16
On Tuesday, the Brooklyn Nets announced that they requested waivers on Beau Beech, Chase Budinger, Jorge Gutierrez, and Egidijus Mockevicius, thus trimming their roster to just 16.
This, of course, was by and large expected of the Nets and new head coach Kenny Atkinson, as the foursome didn’t feature much over preseason. The Nets’ roster is nearly full of guaranteed contracts, so this was always the outcome. Although the Nets will hope to keep Beech and Mockevicius on their new D-League team, the Long Island Nets, Budinger and Gutierrez will likely continue to pursue other opportunities at the NBA level.
Perhaps, then, the most interesting news is that no decision has been made on Yogi Ferrell, the undrafted guard from Indiana University, who didn’t play at all last night versus the Boston Celtics. This week, Atkinson noted that Isaiah Whitehead and Chris McCullough will fluidly move between the Nets and the D-League affiliate, so they may have something similar in store for the speedy guard.
The Nets finish up their preseason on Thursday at home against the New York Knicks.
