The Nets have filled out their training camp roster with one final player, signing center Chris Daniels to a training camp deal, the team announced today. Daniels earned a spot to replace Yanick Moreira, who will skip camp after a torn ligament was discovered in Moreira’s left foot.
Daniels spent last season in the Chinese Basketball Association, backing up former Nets forward Yi Jianlian with the Guangdong Southern Tigers. Daniels averaged 12.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in 33 CBA games, leading the Southern Tigers with a 67.5 percent field goal percentage. Along with China, Daniels has made pit stops in South Korea, Puerto Rico, Jordan and Lebanon, as well as the NBA D-League.
Daniels doesn’t have a great shot to make the Nets roster. They’ve now got 20 players in camp, with 12 guaranteed — 13, if you include Willie Reed’s large partial guarantee, and 14 if you include Markel Brown’s smaller partial guarantee. That leaves one or two spots available for six or seven players. But this is September, when anything is possible.
