The Brooklyn Nets have exercised their third-year options on center Mason Plumlee and Sergey Karasev, the team announced today, guaranteeing their contracts through the 2015-2016 season. the deadline to extend their contracts was October 31st.
Plumlee was a 22nd overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft who the team expected to play in the D-League for most of the season, but earned a rotation spot after injuries and became one of the league’s most effective rookies, averaging 7.4 points and 4.4 points in 18.2 minutes per game and leading all rookies in player efficiency rating. He played on the USA Men’s National Basketball Team over the summer.
The Nets acquired Karasev from the Cleveland Cavaliers in the trade that brought Jarrett Jack to Brooklyn and gave the Cavaliers enough cap room to sign LeBron James. He spent most of last season in the D-League.
The Nets now have until October 31st of next year to extend their contracts for a fourth year. They did not elect to extend guard Marquis Teague, who is under the same deadline, and it’s expected that the team will trade him to the Philadelphia 76ers.
