So that’s it. No conspiracies. No threats of Russian violence to David Stern. No lucky charms. Nothing. Everything held to form 14-6 and the scenario most likely to happen happened. The Nets first round draft pick now belongs to the Portland Trail Blazers.
Gerald Wallace, who was returned to the Nets in the deal for the pick, has a player option for next season (which he’ll be opting out of) and is no guarantee to re-sign. In losing this pick, the Nets lost a major asset either to keep or to trade and may have nothing to show for it.
Suddenly, the Nets doomsday scenario of losing Williams, their draft pick, Gerald Wallace and the chance at trading for Dwight Howard could now be an inevitability.
We’ll have more updates as they come in.
