It must be Joe Cool.
After leading for the majority of Monday night’s Nets-Nuggets game, Brooklyn fell apart down the stretch, eventually hanging onto the game by the thinnest of threads. An odd jump ball led to the Denver Nuggets’ Kenneth Faried hitting an absurd, awkward leaner over Shane Larkin to put the Nets down 2 with just over a second left.
After Jrue Holiday sunk an unlikely game-winning shot for the Pelicans to beat the Nets at the end of January, this was a feeling all too familiar for the Nets. But the darkest of times reveals the brightest of suns: the most dire of times brings us the most recent miraculous version of Joe Johnson.
With 1.3 seconds left, a broken down play left Johnson scrambling to even get a shot off. The result was a frantic one-dribble fading one-legged leaner that banked in at the buzzer for the first feel-good, elating Nets victory this season.
