Looks like everyone saw it coming.
With Nets-Bucks winding down and the Nets needing a play in crunch time, Jason Kidd knew exactly what the Nets were going to do.
As you can see in the video above, Kidd, the infamous Nets ex-coach, yelled at Nets guard Joe Johnson, “WE KNOW! IT’S COMING TO YOU!”, in reference to Johnson’s crunch-time reputation and exploits. The Nets have historically run their late-game offense through “Joe Jesus,” and Kidd boasted that he saw the play coming.
After Kidd piped up, Johnson offered a sheepish smirk, head bowed. “Kidd will play mind games if they’re available to him,” Nets play-by-play announcer Ian Eagle said.
“He doesn’t have a cup of water with him, does he?” Jim Spanarkel cracked, referencing Kidd’s “Spillgate” incident as Nets coach.
Of course, the Nets did run their offense through Johnson, and long defender Giannis Antetokounmpo forced Johnson into a bad look that fell well right. The miss sent the game into a third overtime, and the Nets eventually fell, losing 122-118.
