Pearl Washington, the Brooklyn native who played two of his three NBA seasons with the New Jersey Nets, has passed away, according to his family (via ESPN).

Washington was drafted 13th overall out of Syracuse by the Nets in the 1986 draft, averaging 8.9 points and 3.8 assists per game in a Nets uniform. But he was a playground legend in Brownsville long before hitting the NBA, known as one of the pioneers of the crossover.

Washington was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2015. He was 52.
