Deron Williams returned to Nets practice for the first time since fracturing the cartilage portion of his lower 12th rib by doing non-contact work, the team announced today.
He has been ruled out by the team for their game Wednesday night against the Atlanta Hawks, marking his earliest return date as Friday, when the Nets take on the Toronto Raptors in Brooklyn.
Williams hasn’t played since a four-minute stint on January 7th, re-aggravating an injury he first sustained January 4th in an 88-84 loss to the Miami Heat. Williams said he felt a “tweak” and a “cramp” in his lower rib area. Imaging studies done the next day came back negative, but Williams returned to the lineup with pain and didn’t make it out of the first half.
The Nets have gone 2-10 since Williams first suffered the injury.
