Who’s the point guard on your All-Time Nets All-Star Team?

As mentioned last night, this All-Star break we’re looking back to ask you the question:

Who’s your All-Time Nets All-Star Team?

So here’s how we’re going to do it: we chose the five best prime years (in our estimation) at each position in Nets history. We’ve pitted them against each other, and want you to vote on who YOU think is the best choice for an All-Time Nets All-Star Team.

Along with a comprehensive breakdown of their stats and team success, our crack team at The Brooklyn Game has assembled the case for each player at each position. Though some look easy on the outset, we’re talking the one best year for these guys, not their careers. So you’ll have to think about how good they were when they were at their absolute best.

The winners (tallied by % of “Yes” votes) will be announced on Wednesday, along with the reserves.

Today is point guard day.

Honorable Mention: Devin Harris, 2008-2009. This was, without a doubt, the toughest decision I had to make, and because of that I’m going to wax poetic a bit about Devin Harris that year. Devin Harris was awesome, and I don’t want people to forget that, or think I say it just because we have the same name. He really was. He teetered the brink of efficiency night in and night out, sacrificing his body and getting to the line at a ridiculous rate. He was never a great shooter, never more than a capable defender, but he was an underrated distributor and attacked and attacked and attacked with little regard for his own body.

Only one other point guard averaged more than 7 free throws made and fewer than 16 field goal attempts per game in a full season. That other point guard? Some guy named Magic Johnson, who did it in his third MVP season.

Harris knew he was never the future, just a stopgap between Olympic point guards. But he played his ass off that season. Even though he was never the same after, he deserves credit for it.

Your five choices lie ahead. Feel free to vote with whatever you want: heart, gut, mind, or stomach.
