Billy King has announced today in a morning media session that the Brooklyn Nets have tendered a qualifying offer to center Brook Lopez, making him a restricted free agent at 12:01am on July 1.
Lopez has said publicly that he’d like to remain with the Nets and Billy King as well as other Nets front office members have expressed their desire to keep Lopez around.
And, if you’re to believe this tweet made Monday by Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix:
Several league execs believe Indiana and Brooklyn will match any offers for Roy Hibbert/Brook Lopez
— Chris Mannix (@ChrisMannixSI) June 25, 2012
The Nets are prepared to match any other offer made to Lopez, which is totally in-line with what the Nets have been saying all along.
King also stated that Lopez met with doctors on June 18 and has been cleared for all basketball related activity, except 5-on-5 (no timetable for that).
