Barclays Center opened up a meditation room this week, in a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday. According to Barclays Center, it’s the first of any kind in any major arena in the country.
The room was a part of the arena’s planning since before Barclays Center’s completion, and offers a space for arena patrons to relax, with what’s described as soft seating, soft lighting, soft music, and inspirational words pinned onto the walls.
The area was originally called a “chapel,” but the name was changed following criticism, particularly that public funds were being used for religious purposes.
The room has been around since the arena’s inception (though underdeveloped until this week, as Atlantic Yards Report noted in 2012), but officially opened this week after a complete redesign.
