The Nets didn’t make it out of training camp unscathed, and they’ll rest four players in their first preseason game back. Andrea Bargnani (tight left hamstring), Markel Brown (left oblique strain), Willie Reed (right quad strain), and Chris McCullough (right knee rehab) will all sit out against Fenerbahce Ulker Monday night. McCullough is not expected to resume basketball-related activities until at least January.
Bargnani missed 53 games last season, sitting out the opening of the year with a strained right hamstring. It’s unclear how serious his current injury is. He has missed 175 games over the last four seasons due to various injuries to his hamstring, back, calf, and torn ligaments in both elbows.
Brown missed the end of training camp with his oblique strain, and he mused that he could miss the start of the season. He was scheduled to meet with team doctor Riley Williams III about the injury this weekend, so there should be an update on his condition soon. He said he felt a “pop.”
With Bargnani and Reed out, there’s a fair number of minutes open for Thomas Robinson, the only other backup big man with a guaranteed contract. There’s also a shot for some of the other bigs to get minutes: Quincy Miller, Chris Daniels, and Justin Harper are all on the training camp roster.
