Report: Brook Lopez out for season with broken foot

Brook Lopez is out indefinitely with a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot, the Brooklyn Nets announced today. Lopez will meet with physicians later this week for a prognosis, but the Nets fear he is done for the year.

This is the third serious injury Lopez has suffered in his right foot since 2011. He missed all but five games in the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season with a stress fracture in the same bone in his right foot, and later had surgery to repair a bent screw that was placed in that foot. His twin brother Robin has also had the injury.

INFO: So what is a fifth metatarsal, anyway?

Prior to the official announcement, NetsDaily confirmed that Lopez is likely out for the season:

The news was first reported by Gary Tanguay.

Lopez left the locker room without talking to reporters last night.

This is a devastating blow for Brooklyn’s chances at even just making the playoffs, as Lopez was the team’s youngest and most productive player this season.
