Pregame Open Thread: Nets-Rockets, 8:00 P.M.

Tonight, the Nets will take on the Rockets at the Prudential Center.  No 3-on-3 for this weekend edition, but here are some quick facts on tonight’s contest:

  • Injury report: The Nets will be without their two best players in Deron Williams (sore calf) and Brook Lopez (sprained ankle).  What this means is that the Nets will be starting Jordan Farmar at point guard tonight, and going for their league-high 18th different starting lineup.  The Rockets will be without Kyle Lowry (strained groin/illness) and Goran Dragic (bruised foot) is listed as questionable.
  • The Nets are coming off a win against the Bobcats where Kris Humphries stole the show.  I’m going to predict that, again, Humphries will be the best big man on the court for either team tonight.
  • The Rockets have lost their last 5 games, but won their last 10 against New Jersey.
  • The Nets are rooting for the Rockets to make the playoffs this year so they will secure the rights to their draft pick.  With Minnesota’s Ricky Rubio now out for the year, the Rockets are now almost sure things to make the postseason.  The Nets now find themselves in the awkward position of wanting to beat the team they want to make the playoffs.
  • Player to watch for the Nets should be Jordan Farmar and how he handles the starting point guard role.  Farmar played pretty well as a starter in those games last year when D-Will was out with a wrist injury.  I’m curious to see how he handles the extended minutes tonight.

That’s all for now.  Enjoy the game folks!
