After giving a million dollars to Minnesota and drafting OK State’s Markel Brown with the 44th pick, the Nets made two quick moves back-to-back.

They first bought the 59th pick from the Toronto Raptors and used it to pick San Diego State senior guard Xavier Thames. Thames, a 6-3 guard averaged 17.6 points and 3.2 assists his senior year. Draft Express had him ranked #85 on the top 100 prospect list.

Second, they purchased the 60th pick from San Antonio and drafted Baylor big man Cory Jefferson. Jefferson averaged 13.7 points and 8.2 rebounds his senior year and was ranked 66 in the Draft Express prospect list.

I don’t know anything about either of these dudes, but I like the fact that the Nets realized what Mason Plumlee brought to the team and added more athleticism. I also liked that they added two guys who were able to score a lot in college (both Brown and Thames put up over 17 a game), and got guys who can rebound. It’s interesting that none of these guys are Eurostashes, and a good reminder that the Nets don’t have a D-League team anymore, so they clearly see these three as potential role-fillers.
