Monday Morning Shootaround: What’s Brook Lopez Doing In New Zealand?

Good Monday morning. Here’s the latest from the weekend of Brooklyn Nets news and notes around the web:

  • The Nets are getting started early this summer: according to Josh Newman of SNY and later confirmed by others, guard Deron Williams is leading Nets offseason workouts, starting this week through Friday. Everyone will attend with five exceptions: Andray Blatche, Reggie Evans, Andrei Kirilenko, Tornike Shengelia, and Mirza Teletovic. The workouts are held in Los Angeles because that’s where Paul Pierce lives.

  • This piece about Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Steven Adams notes that Adams led a coaching clinic this past weekend with Nets center Brook Lopez in Wellington, New Zealand. Lopez has already been to Africa with former U.S. President Bill Clinton this offseason, and his cat’s Instagram account put up a picture of a tiger this morning. So he’s probably enjoying his summer.

  • Congrats to Nets play-by-play announcer, friend of The Brooklyn Game, and spectacular human Ian Eagle for his induction into Syracuse’s WAER Radio Hall of Fame. Well deserved.

  • Hat tip to NetsDaily for keeping us up with Bojan Bogdanovic’s play this summer. BoBo, currently playing for Fenerbahce and possibly negotiating an extension, most recently hung 17 points & 5 assists on Latvia in a victory.

  • The Nets teamed up with Delete Blood Cancer this past Saturday on Coney Island for a bone marrow registration drive. Joe Johnson’s mother suffers from blood cancer, and the Nets first made the partnership after acquiring the guard last offseason.

  • Lots of talk lately from Raymond Felton and Paul Pierce (okay, and Kendrick Lamar) about who The King Of New York Is. Felton says it’s the Knicks. Pierce says it’s the Nets. Kendrick says it’s Kendrick. I’d say it’s probably Mikhail Prokhorov. Either way, I can’t wait for the season to start. Nets-Knicks will be must-watch like never before.
