Inconsistency leaves MarShon Brooks out of Nets rotation

MarShon Brooks, the second-year Brooklyn Nets shooting guard, has yet to find an every-game spot in the Nets rotation. Despite a 24.0 PER and 63% shooting from the field in his 91 limited minuts, Coach Avery Johnson has elected to give more time to veterans Keith Bogans and Jerry Stackhouse, particularly for their work on the defensive end.

As Johnson told reporters after yesterday’s practice:

That’s half the decision, but part of it is when Bogans and Stackhouse and those guys have been in the rotation, they’ve been really consistent. That’s what we’re looking for, consistency. MarShon, he’ll continue to grow and continue to learn, but we need guys that, if anything, will be flat-lined.

We can’t have the highs and lows. … We need consistency. Right now those guys, over a 10-game period, are the guys that have been real consistent, and they’ll stay in the rotation. MarShon has to stay ready when called upon.

Brooks has a lot of individual offensive talent but has struggled to fit into Johnson’s system. Even with Brooks shooting 63%, the team averages just 88 points per 100 possessions with him on the court, over 16 points below their average.
