Barclays Center’s latest development is getting closer to completion.

Though it caused some unforseen issues, most notably a mid-game roof leak in December, Barclays Center’s “green roof” is nearing completion, as the above video from Architect Newspaper shows in an interview with Linda Chiarelli, Deputy Director of Construction at Forest City Ratner.

The grassy roof “is designed to reduce noise output from the arena, capture rainwater, and provide nice views from the street,” according to the report. The arena had the green roof written in its original plans, but it was scrapped before Barclays Center was actually built, Chiarelli said. That meant they needed to add an additional structure to support the roof.

The construction has not come without tragedy. In February, a 52-year-old worker named Peter Zepf was killed on site by a falling beam.
