When it was first reported that Deron Williams was most likely going to sign with Leon Rose – the man somewhat responsible for the “team” known as the Miami Heat – I let out (as I expect many of you did) a groan. Generally, I was hoping that Deron wouldn’t look to anything LeBron in his handling of free agency.
Luckily, that groan was preemptive. As it turns out, Deron has signed with a different agent, the high-profile Jeff Schwartz. Schwartz represents athletes such as Jason Kidd, Blake Griffin, Kevin Love, Paul Pierce, and Devin Harris to name a few.
On the one hand, D-Will is not associated with LeBron’s camp, and those weird conspiracy theories will likely dissipate. On the other, guys like Devin Harris and Jason Kidd – two guys who had messy breakups with the Nets – are also represented by this guy. As far as we know, Deron is very happy with the organization. All I’m really hoping is that this lockout ends, and we can see that happiness on the floor.
