Deron Williams thinks he can finally dunk

Deron Williams

Deron Williams received platelet-rich plasma treatment for synovitis in both ankles prior to the All-Star break, and it appears to have done the trick: Williams says his ankles feel as good as they’ve felt all season.

My ankles don’t hurt. We finally got the injections in the right spot, and they feel a little bit better. I can actually walk up and down stairs and run around with my kids. I can go to the playground with them. I don’t have to hurt every time I take a single step. So yeah, I feel a lot better. I can dunk.

Williams, after dunking a few times — most notably on Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert last season — has yet to dunk this year, getting thrown back by Los Angeles Clippers dunk machine Blake Griffin in his only attempt.

Will he try to dunk this season? “I’m still nervous.” Well then.

Since the All-Star break, Williams has averaged 21.7 points, 7.1 assists, and 4.0 turnovers per game, shooting 43.8% from the field and 45.5% from beyond the arc.
