grade-fThere’s no kind way to put it: Terry’s per-game statistics are a mirage worthy of black magic. His shooting is buoyed by garbage-time open looks, his defense is absolutely porous, his point guard skills have eroded, and any ability he had inside the three-point arc has been swallowed into the depths of the BrooklyKnight’s soul, where there exists nothing but crippling loneliness mixed with burning fear.

He’s almost unrecognizable from the JET that helped dismantle the Miami Heat in 2011, the one the Nets hoped they’d get to replace C.J. Watson. As we’ve detailed, Terry’s solid three-point shooting — his only asset at this point in his career — has come almost exclusively when the game is no longer in doubt, and his contributions at any other point in the game have been downright awful. He’s shooting 32.7 percent inside the three-point arc. 32.7!

Had Terry played even at replacement level, they wouldn’t need to search for a third point guard to back up Deron Williams and Shaun Livingston. But he hasn’t, not even close. His value these days is relegated solely to chanting “BROOKLYN” with the crowd and waving his arms when the team’s doing well. Which has its own value on a veteran team, but not one on the court.

Next: Deron Williams
