Bikinis, Basketball, and Brooklyn?
Proposed bikini bar splits residents

Imagine this scenario: Down by two points in the final moments of an important basketball game in Brooklyn, Deron Williams penetrates the lane and kicks to a wide open Mirza Teletovic who fires off a shot at the buzzer! Somehow, it goes in! Pandemonium! Nets win by one!

As everyone files out of the Barclays Center, there’s loud, frantic chatter. An audible buzzer races throughout the area, everybody is so excited and pumped– if only there was somewhere right nearby where they could continue their raucous celebrations!

Well, in today’s weird news, there’s one proposal for people to celebrate — but adults only. The proposal is to create an “upscale” bikini bar near Barclays Center.

And, of course, in classic Brooklyn fashion, the feeling is split:

“After a basketball game, a strip joint? No I am a family man who likes the Nets,” a Park Slope resident told PIX 11.

There’s no name or location yet. It could be right near Barclays on Atlantic Avenue or in Fort Green (sic).

PIX 11 found only one person who actually liked the idea.

“I am all about fun,” Marie Driven of Prospect Park said. “It wouldn’t be competing with Barclays. It works both ways.”

It is the brainchild of retired NYPD detective Michael Bell and New Jersey bar owner Renee Caesar. They’ve presented their plans to Brooklyn’s Community Board 2 and now just await word.

Author Magee Hickey pokes fun at Brooklyn’s “hipster” roots, saying: “But, the people going to see the band Postal Service at the Barclays and the cops here on the beat say ‘no way.’ ”

Hickey does note, finally, that a proposed plan for a Hooters on Flatbush Ave. was recently shot down as well, and that many believe this idea is doomed to the same fate.
