Resolution: Make a difference when he is given time, play gritty basketball

While Anthony Bennett hasn’t been involved in every Nets game this season, he’s impacted the ones he played in. Bennett, the former no. one overall pick, has struggled to stick with teams, and the Nets are his fourth in four years. However, this year, he’s been given opportunities and, mostly, succeeded in them, particularly so when considering his dirt-cheap contract.

Playing about 12 minutes per game, right around his career average, Bennett is shooting 56% from inside, more than 12% better than any of his other three seasons; and his 5 points per game average ties a career-high from 2014 with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Bennett has not played in the Nets' last three games, but, previous to that, scored 11 points in 14 minutes against Cleveland on for 4 for 8 shooting. In Brook Lopez’s absence, Bennett even started a game this season on December 3rd against Milwaukee. In 23 minutes, a season-high, Bennett scored 7 points and grabbed 14 rebounds -- a strong line for the once-forgotten youngster.

For Bennett, it’s just a matter of contributing to the team when the opportunity is handed to him, as he sits fourth on the big man depth chart behind Lopez, Trevor Booker, and Justin Hamilton.

The Brooklyn Nets have waived Anthony Bennett, the team announced on Monday morning. To fill the open roster spot, Marc Stein of ESPN reports that they’ll sign Quincy Acy out of the D-League to a 10-day contract. Even with the Nets falling further out of playoff content each game and Chris McCullough glued to the D-League, Bennett […]
